Dog Ordinance Changes

There have been recent incidents of people being bitten by dogs in River Heights. The threat of rabies is a health risk. One of the reasons there is an ordinance in River Heights requiring dogs to be licensed is to insure dogs have been vaccinated for rabies. In the past, there have been a number of residents who have not licensed their dogs, which brings into question whether or not their dogs are up to date on vaccinations. In order to encourage dog owners to keep their dogs’ rabies vaccinations current and to protect the health of our residents, there have been changes proposed to the City’s Animal Control Ordinance that outline a timetable for licensing dogs and the consequences for not doing so. A public hearing will be held to discuss these changes. Check our website or the Herald Journal agenda section for the date and time.
